May 21, 2025 - The Ministry of Labour has sent letters to all provinces, assigning the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare to issue invitations to employers to establish paid menstrual leave for female workers and require employers to provide free sanitary products as welfare benefits for all female employees to promote better quality of life and reduce inequality.
Background
This directive from the Ministry of Labour through the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare resulted from proposals submitted by the Northern Labour Network to the government and related agencies during the annual International Migrants Day. The network pushed for concrete solutions to problems currently faced by migrant workers.
One of the proposals included promoting and developing the quality of life for female workers by establishing paid menstrual leave and requiring employers to provide free sanitary products for all female employees.
